Special Issue on

Personalization in Cloud and Services Computing

Guest Editors: Jian Yu, Michael Sheng, and Yanbo Han

Background and Scope

While services computing has become a dominant paradigm for Web-based distributed computing, which has changed the way Web applications are designed, delivered and consumed, cloud computing is emerging rapidly as a new paradigm that aims at enabling virtualized on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort.

Personalization and context-awareness research in the area of cloud and services computing are emerging as an important topic with the transformation of Internet and Web from traditional linking and sharing of computers and documents (i.e., "Web of Data") to current connecting of people (i.e., "Web of People"). User-centric and personalized services that are both easily accessible and adaptable are highly desirable in the future since they hold the potential to enrich user experiences and make our daily life more productive, convenient, and enjoyable. Such user-centric perspective also brings new challenges in the architecture, design and implementation of existing cloud and services infrastructures and applications, for example, how to smartly deal with large amounts of services based on users' personalized needs, how to handle personalized service composition in a dynamic environment, how to support and deliver personalized services in the context of cloud computing, and how to customize business processes according to user preferences.

This special issue aims at presenting the latest developments, trends, and research solutions of context-aware Web services. Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
