NAAEC will make bookings at the New Otani Hotel.
Once you are committed to a visit, make sure to ask Tracey for the forms to fill out, and make travel arrangements in plenty of time.
It will be assumed that you will travel to Singapore on Thursday, and return on Monday.
Let Tracey know if you want to vary that.
Teaching hours are:
It is up to you to schedule breaks, tutorial questions, lab time, within those hours. No meal break Friday, expect to have meal breaks Saturday and Sunday (I usually combine them with some tutorial or lab exercises).
Laptops Wireless (CS network) is accessible in the lab and server room.
Teaching equipment. Each room is provided with a PC with a projector connected to it. You can unplug the PC and connect your own laptop. Ask Elena if you need an overhead projector.
It is best to go to NAAEC Friday morning to collect your per diem payments, teaching materials and room keys. Check your room so that if anything is missing it can be fixed in plenty of time.
Check that the Sunrays and server are operational -- if any systems assistance is needed from Adelaide, it's best to know early.
A SELT must be done for each visit. Download and prepare forms in advance. Check with Elena about arrangements for conducting the survey.
Lecture Notes Students expect to receive handouts of the lecture slides, and any other course notes, at the first session. The usual procedure is to send material two weeks in advance to Elena, who will make bound copies. Provide a index and header pages if possible. There is a photocopier at NAAEC. Assignment and tutorial handouts usually get done as needed.
Covering teaching at Adelaide. It is your responsibility to make sure, well in advance, that any scheduled lectures etc are covered
FOODThere is a supermarket at the basement of the hotel, open until 10pm, and a convenience store near the hotel entrance.
Clarke Quay is across the road from the hotel. There are many restaurants there. They are mostly awful. Avoid those along the riverfront (but they are OK for a drink and the view).
There are more across the river from Clarke Quay. Brewerkz is good for a beer (they amke several) and a snack. The Indonesian place is acceptable if you don't feel like going further afield.
Boat Quay is a few minutes walk down the river. Food quality is a bit like a lottery but it's an interesting atmosphere. The jazz club is good.
Chinatown Food Court is excellent, as is nearby Smith St. Get directions form the hotel. Fifteen minutes walk.
Little India (Serangoon road) is entertaining. Banana Leaf Apolo (sic) is a safe bet for food (South Indian), especially fish head curry. Gayatri is also good.
Also Tepak Sireh (Sultan Gate), and House of Pernakan Cuisine.
Here is a map of the general area. Marked are
The map comes from here where you can navigate and zoom to look at other parts of Singapore as well.
